Silversea origin

New Build

Type of Vessel

Origin is an exclusive expedition vessel sailing only around Galapakos Islands. This remote and difficult to reach destination demands a lot from the systems. They need to be extremely reliable and easy to operate. Quick service calls or sending out parts is just not possible.

The person responsible for the systems is an IT Officer who is not necessarily specialized in AV at all.

GENERAL INFO

Concept

Although the hull of the ship is the same as previously delivered Celebrity Flora, the systems were designed from scratch to meet the individual operational needs of Silversea. High quality equipment were expected to be specified by the client.

Explorer Lounge

This is the Main Lounge of the ship. It is a multi functional venue. During the day guests can watch TV or they can listen to the presentations of the tour guides as they are showing videos and telling about the next shore excursion. In the evening time the piano in the corner provides entertainment. Full band connectivity is also provided by the piano, but this is not something that will happen on every cruise.

Crestron NVX video over TCP-IP handles individual routing of video to all the TV displays and 3x3 video wall from the sources located in the equipment rack. Crestron control system handles audio, video and lighting control from the 7" touchpanel mounted by the Bar or from the iPad.

Wireless microphones are by Shure and both handheld and belt packs are provided. L-Acoustics main speakers mounted adjacent to the Video Wall provide such a good coverage for the whole room, that shared PAGA ceiling speakers were not needed after all. Capability is there, but it is not being used since the speakers are in the absolute ideal location sound wise. This was achieved by the close communication we had with the architects and the interior design department of RCI/Silversea during the design phase. Subwoofers are mounted on a steel plate with rubber vibration mounts in order to prevent noise leaks to the suites right above the Explorer Lounge. Speakers are completely hidden behind an acoustically transparent cloth.

QSC Q-SYS Digital Sound Processor handles the audio distribution and gets the 8 channels of background music from the Radiopark Server via networked I/O-8 FLEX unit in the main IT rack room.
